Yellow Canoe: Update

Hey everybody! I noticed that traffic on this blog is still kind of heavy, so I figured I'd stop in to post an update.

I'm excited to announce that I'm having my very first solo art exhibition this fall! It will be at the Common Wealth Gallery in Madison, Wisconsin. The address is 100 S. Baldwin, 3rd Floor. The opening is on Friday, September 7th 2012, although I haven't decided what time it will start yet.

Also, if you haven't already, I would be so very thrilled if you "liked" Yellow Canoe on facebook! Thanks so much; it really means a lot to me. I'm trying to expand my audience a bit before the show and every extra "like" goes a long way [right now i only have 79, haha!]

I've taken a couple years off from making things so I could focus on writing [I'm a contributor over at] and to allow more time for doing stuff around the house. I'm super amped to have ink stains on my fingertips again-- it's something that's been missing for way too long.

Okay, that's all for now. It's off to the garage for me...that's where I have all of my art stuff set up right now. I'm working on 3 pieces and hoping to finish at least one of them before the day is over. Thanks for stopping by!

Hello, hello!

So you may have arrived here by a Google search or something similar. I haven't updated this blog in quite some time and Yellow Canoe isn't much of a happening thing in my life these days. Please visit me over at Operation Paper Cut to see what I've been up to. Lots of thrift store finds, projects, design stuff, etc.

2 new racks for the shop:

More to come. I'm making 3 new designs for spring! Hoping to have about 20 of these done by March, but we'll see.

I made this guy for myself.
But Joe is practically begging me to make more.

He even bought me a new jigsaw, since my excuse before was that I couldn't make more, due to quality issues.

The jigsaw I used on this one pictured was less than stellar, and I had to be pretty hard on it.

But now that I have a nifty NEW jigsaw, I am able to offer these to you guys.

Pre-order and more info in my shop.

AT: February Jumpstart Project

Apartment Therapy ended up using my floating nightstand entry in the February Jumpstart contest!

Go give it a "thumbs up" if you are feeling so inclined. I'd be forever grateful if you did! Voting ends March 2nd. I was a bit behind on submitting my entry, but that's okay. I had fun anyway.

Hope your weekend is going well. I'm trying to decide what to do today, but it's already 2:00. I painted a few boards this morning for something that I'll show you soon, but other than that, there's not much going on.

Joe is laying on the couch (what he does best on the weekends...) but I want to go DO something. We'll see what happens.
This blog is on hiatus.

Please come visit me at Operation Paper Cut!

Yellow Canoe is now on Big Cartel.

I might be leaving Etsy soon if all goes well.

Update: I'm still on Etsy...I like it better there. :)

Hi Again!

So the last time I posted was in August?!? I guess it's because I started working more hours so Yellow Canoe is kind of just...there.

But here are a few things I've been making:

"The Mountain"

"Sit Still"

Latest sweater/coat/bag rack:

"Sugar Mountain"

In action....

Getting ready for the holiday rush on Etsy and hoping that it goes as well as last year.
We'll see, though.

I've been working on a bunch of one-of-a-kind key/necklace racks, which I'm hoping to start listing today.

I'm working in the customer service department of a large corporation now and I am thinking about applying at some retail place just for seasonal work. If I do that, I'm not really sure what will happen with Yellow Canoe as far as updates go. I worked from home for about 8 months and learned a lot during that time. I definitely realized that it's not for me! I just need more structure in my life I guess. It was always a dream to never have to work for someone again, but once that dream came true I found that there is a lot more stress involved than I cared to deal with.
I have been much happier since creating has become something I look forward to again. I also have big plans of getting back into book binding because I miss it dearly...I haven't bound a journal in almost a year! I hope I haven't forgotten any of it, because it was something that I taught myself how to do and there are really a lot of little tricks that I learned along the way that made things easier. I've been collecting pretty paper for awhile now and my stash is gigantic- I can't wait to offer journals again! Right now it's just a matter of finding a new paper supplier for the signatures. More on that later, but when it happens it will be through my Operation Paper Cut shop.

For now I'm off to paint. Thanks for visiting.

more racks

more market bag racks are available!

this one...
and this one...

more to come soon!

i have an interview on monday for a position as an order processor, answering phones and taking orders.

if i get the job, i will continue to update the yellow canoe shop as much as i currently do, which won't be difficult since i haven't been updating as much as i'd like to lately.

the reason for this is because i broke 2 of my rapidograph pens and i'm waiting to buy new pens...until then i can't do anything other than print.

i miss drawing pine trees.

i will buy new pens after i get home from the world's longest yard sale, which i'm going to in 4 days.

i can't wait!

Just thought I'd let you know that we're experiencing a huge outage in the Madison area with our cable internet provider today. Some sites work, but many do not. I am leaving town tomorrow afternoon so if you have a question and can't get a hold of me through Etsy, please email me at erinlangnorris AT gmail DOT com.

Figured I'd put that out there since I can't get on Etsy to check anything!
