Hi Again!
So the last time I posted was in August?!? I guess it's because I started working more hours so Yellow Canoe is kind of just...there.
But here are a few things I've been making:
"The Mountain"
"Sit Still"

Getting ready for the holiday rush on Etsy and hoping that it goes as well as last year.
We'll see, though.
I've been working on a bunch of one-of-a-kind key/necklace racks, which I'm hoping to start listing today.
I'm working in the customer service department of a large corporation now and I am thinking about applying at some retail place just for seasonal work. If I do that, I'm not really sure what will happen with Yellow Canoe as far as updates go. I worked from home for about 8 months and learned a lot during that time. I definitely realized that it's not for me! I just need more structure in my life I guess. It was always a dream to never have to work for someone again, but once that dream came true I found that there is a lot more stress involved than I cared to deal with.
I have been much happier since creating has become something I look forward to again. I also have big plans of getting back into book binding because I miss it dearly...I haven't bound a journal in almost a year! I hope I haven't forgotten any of it, because it was something that I taught myself how to do and there are really a lot of little tricks that I learned along the way that made things easier. I've been collecting pretty paper for awhile now and my stash is gigantic- I can't wait to offer journals again! Right now it's just a matter of finding a new paper supplier for the signatures. More on that later, but when it happens it will be through my Operation Paper Cut shop.
For now I'm off to paint. Thanks for visiting.

more racks
more to come soon!
----------------------------------
i have an interview on monday for a position as an order processor, answering phones and taking orders.
if i get the job, i will continue to update the yellow canoe shop as much as i currently do, which won't be difficult since i haven't been updating as much as i'd like to lately.
the reason for this is because i broke 2 of my rapidograph pens and i'm waiting to buy new pens...until then i can't do anything other than print.
i miss drawing pine trees.
i will buy new pens after i get home from the world's longest yard sale, which i'm going to in 4 days.
i can't wait!

FYI
Just thought I'd let you know that we're experiencing a huge outage in the Madison area with our cable internet provider today. Some sites work, but many do not. I am leaving town tomorrow afternoon so if you have a question and can't get a hold of me through Etsy, please email me at erinlangnorris AT gmail DOT com.
Figured I'd put that out there since I can't get on Etsy to check anything!

Exciting News
Hello!
I know, I've been gone forever...
But I'm back with some great news!
I have decided to start offering a smaller size key rack/necklace rack in my shop. I might be phasing out the old size completely.
The old size is 6"x11". Weighs 1 lb 5 ounces when packaged in a box. Usually costs about $8.70 or more to ship with delivery confirmation and insurance. I hate having to charge my buyers so much money...it's insane.
The new size is 6"x7.5". Weighs 12 ounces when packaged in a heavy duty bubble wrap envelope (goodbye, boxes and tons of packaging tape, maybe...) and weighs 1 lb. when in a box (if I keep the boxes...) The REALLY great thing about the envelope is I can ship First Class since it weighs under 13 oz, which costs much much less than my current options. So, with insurance and delivery confirmation, it will cost approximately $4.50 for First Class and $6.80 for Priority, maybe even less.

I'm really happy to be able to offer new pieces at a lower shipping costs, and I'm also pleased to say that since the pieces are smaller, I get more out of the large pieces of wood I cut. This can only mean one thing- I can now offer my pieces at a lower cost! Prices are still to be determined, there is a lot to factor into the equation.
The new pieces will have 3 hooks rather than 5. This is good because spray painting hooks while living in an apartment really just sucks at times. Okay, so it sucks ALL the time. This way I will be able to get about 18 boards finished with one package of hooks, rather than only 11...a huge difference.
Yesterday I painted 4 sets of the new size, introducing 4 new colors:
Pebble grey (almost white)
Nautical blue
Grape green
Sugarplum Purple
Today is printing day- 1 new design to come! I'm printing the new one on the blue and greyish boards. Photos to come. Everything will be in the shop by tomorrow or Wednesday.

I'm Back!
Hi there!
Wow I haven't been around for such a long time.
I got a new job and I've also been working on lots of consignment and wholesale orders. I'm finally finished with 4 different orders though, so I can start listing on Etsy again and hopefully keep up with the blog a little better.
Yellow Canoe wares are currently available here:
Birch Handmade- Catskills, NY
Vix Emporium- Philadelphia, PA
Moss- Savannah, Georgia
MoCo Market- Madison, Wisconsin
Cut + Paste, an awesome independent online shop (items should be available shortly)
So now I would like to get into a couple shops on the East coast then I'll be set!
{wholesale order for Cut + Paste}
What's coming for Yellow Canoe this spring:
+New vertical version of the coat racks (I'm excited about these!)
+More key racks
And for the summer:
+Block printed window panels
Also, Yellow Canoe will be featured Somerset Home 2008, which is a magazine. More info on that soon!
Thanks for stopping by, there will be more photos in the next post.

Hey there!
The latest for Yellow Canoe:
I made these on Thursday.
They are slowly being added to the shop over the weekend.
So, some of you are asking how things are going since I'm not "working for the man" any longer.
Well, things are going okay. I'm having a wonderful time being able to work on new creations more often. Unfortunately, I'm still going to have to get a job part time soon. Very soon. Some things are happening with our old apartment that need to be taken care of, which are out of my control, and the only way to take care of the situation is to have more money. I'm not too thrilled with it all, but I am really hoping to be able to find a fun job. If I found something fun, I wouldn't mind working! I think the reason I hated working so much before is because I've worked in food service for the last 7 years. It's really one of the worst jobs ever. Which is why I was SO gung-ho about being done with it! But If I find something fun, like a neat little local retail shop that sells design oriented goods, then I will be fine.
Fingers crossed.
We'll see what happens, though. I *might* be able to pull things off since Yellow Canoe wares are making an appearance in more and more retail stores across the U.S.
That's all for now, friends!
Look for another update late this coming week.

Yellow Canoe is all settled in
Things are going well here the new Yellow Canoe studio.
Madison is really great, although I haven't been able to see as much as I'd like because I've been busy unpacking and creating.
We've been here for 18 days already, which is hard to believe. But then I look at everything I've gotten accomplished {for Yellow Canoe...not with life in general, haha} and it feels a little more real.
Over the past few days I have been contacting various boutiques about getting my wares in their shop. A list of "places to buy" will be coming shortly. So far I've been accepted into 5 stores. I currently have my items in one shop out in N.Y. called Birch. With a name like that, you know it has to be marvelous.
I am shipping items out to Philadelphia this week as well to a nifty little place called Vix Emporium.
Missouri, Wisconsin and California are all on the list as well. Shop names to come shortly, once everything is set in stone.
I took about a week and a half to two weeks off from Yellow Canoe, during the move and all. Whenever I do this, I usually get pretty anxious about things and feel a bit frazzled by the end. Some people read to get away. Others take bubble baths and sip wine {which doesn't sound all that bad, actually.}. Personally, I find that creating is my escape.
So I was finally able to get back in the swing of things about a week and a half ago. But before I could do that, I had to set up my new studio:
{It's nice having a little gallery of my creations because people now realize that I'm serious when I tell them that I make things. Oh, and it makes packaging orders so much easier.}
I am in my studio every day from about 7:15 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. I usually start the day off by making some coffee and breakfast and then I visit all my favorite design blogs, replying to emails and etsy convos, stopping in at flickr, etc. This usually lasts until about 9.

And then I'm ready to start the day.
I'm finally able to make things in bulk which is something I've been wanting to do for quite some time, but couldn't because I was limited with my space. But now I have a nice long table that spans about 10 feet, so it makes for a nice assembly line.
And it also provides a big enough area for me to make my newest creations, which are rather large {for me, anyway}
Yellow Canoe is proud to present a new line...
Block printed coat and scarf racks:
{Top: Sticks and Stones. Orange version coming this afternoon.}
{Bottom: Circles}
And here are the rest of the things I've made in the past week:
4 green and white key racks:
1 of each of these:
6 heart key racks. 1 "eight" piece. 4 gate key racks.
1 mountain piece.
Most are still available in the shop.
There are a few more things but my fingers are freezing and I've been working on this post for an hour now. So more next time!
